Here we go!

Since this is my first post, I'll tell you a little about me and what I do.
I work in a city of almost 200,000 people.
I work 24 hrs on duty, 48 hrs off. I know, I know... What a job! Work 1 day, off 3. I even get to sleep while I'm at work without getting in trouble! When I was a rookie, one of they guys I worked with said it best.. "You know you've landed the perfect job when you can take your pillow and blanket to work with you." I'm cross trained as a firefighter/paramedic. I work on an 105' aerial ladder truck about 50% of the days I'm on duty, a medic unit the other 50%. Even when I'm working on the ladder, we run as first responders for medic runs. It's probably a safe
guess that 60 - 70% of the runs in our city are EMS, (emergency medical service), runs. The days on the medic are usually my busiest.
With that said, I thought this blog might be a fun way to share some of the runs I go on. No names or personal info will be shared. Just some of the things that make a run stand out from the others.
I'll probably use this as a way to vent also. We just finished contract negotiations, so the city government is not high on my list at the moment. I tend to whine as they take more apparatus out of service and reduce our staffing. I'll save this for a "bash the city" post.
I'm on duty tomorrow... I'm sure I'll have at least 1 story to tell after that...
